About ICEC Canadian Remelt Facility

In 2005 ICEC purchased approximately 600,000 tons of sulfur contained in an existing sulfur storage block in Alberta, Canada. Designed to melt roughly 800 tons of sulfur daily, the remelting facility is a pit remelt system able to achieve high volumes while being sensitive to the environment. The project is expected to take 24-36 months to complete. All remelted product will ship to US and international markets. Sales of the remelt product will be shipped using ICEC’s existing 1300 railcar fleet managed in-house by the railcar management division.

At the close of the project, ICEC will initiate the land reclamation phase to restore the site.

COAL

Bituminous Coal:

Formed under high pressure, contains 45-86% carbon with a corresponding heat value on average between 10,500 and 15,500 BTUs per pound. Used primarily to generate electricity and as a raw material for the steel and iron industries, it is also used in a variety of industrial processes for supplying heat. Largest producers are located in Pennsylvania, Kentucky and West Virginia.

Metallurgical Coal/ PCI (Pulverized Coal Injection):

Varieties of bituminous coal used in steelmaking and ironmaking processes. Coking coal is an example consisting of a blend of two or more bituminous coal varieties containing low ash and low sulfur content capable of supporting the charge of iron ore and limestone in a blast furnace. PCI is a technology where pulverized coal and coke are used in blast furnace process for ironmaking.

Principal US Mining Regions Overview:

Appalachian Mines
(West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Eastern Kentucky, and Ohio): High BTU, Low Sulfur
Illinois Basin (Illinois, Indiana and Western Kentucky): High BTU, High Sulfur
Powder River Basin (Wyoming and Montana): Lower BTU, Low Sulfur
